Experience the true hospitality and creativity of township life in Kayamandi (translated as “sweet home”) on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. Embark on an insightful walking tour with your resident guide. Meet artists and entrepreneurs who inspire the young generation. Interact with children at a day-care centre (Monday - Friday during the school term). After an insightful walking tour, you will be welcomed in a Xhosa family home where you can roll up your sleeves to help prepare a simple dish. Then you will eat different dishes, while listening to stories about township life, customs and traditions.

Meeting point:
Your guide will meet you at Stellenbosch Wine Route office at 47 Church (aka 'Kerk') street , Stellenbosch Central. Here you will be transferred to Kayamandi township.
What to remember
  • Minimum 2 persons required for booking
  • The maximum number of participants is 15
  • Meet at departure point 15 minutes prior to tour departure time
  • Smart casual dress code with comfortable walking shoes is recommended
  • Please be aware that children below two years old will not be having a meal during the tour, therefore they don't need a reservation. While children of age three and above need a reservation and will be paying full price
  • Parking Options (you'll need R50 - R100 in cash):
    a) On-street parking around our meeting point in Church / Kerk street
    b) Open-air parking area in Plein street (between Decameron Restaurant and Botanical Garden)
    c) Covered parking at the Eikestad Mall
  • Return transfers are provided between the meeting point in Stellenbosch and the Kayamandi township
  • Street names are at the bottom of the sidewalk in yellow and black
