Unveil the secrets of the communist era in Romania during this walking tour in Timisoara. Find out how the most iconic dictatorship regimes in modern history actually started and learn all about the revolution that put an end to Nicolae Ceausescu's leadership.
The tour will start at the location of the the misfit club “SCARTZ Place Lejer” with a biography of the main character of this period: Nicolae Ceausescu, the cobbler’s apprentice who later became the dictator of Romania. Listen to stories about the 50-years geopolitical evolution that resulted in a tragic historical event known as the “Romanian Revolution of 1989”. Explore the Communist Customer Museum, which is located in the basement of SCARTZ club. The museum is a large collection of various objects, products from the Communist era, depicting an ordinary 2-rooms apartment.
After the visit, go for a guided walk through the city. Visit the place where the Romanian Anticommunist Revolution started in 1989, as well as the most important buildings involved in it: Decebal Bridge, the local headquarter of the former Communist Party (County Council), Liberty Square and Victory Square. The tour will end at the Revolution Memorial.
