Take part in this tour from Trieste and discover the wonderful Aquileia and Grado.
Aquileia, a UNESCO World Heritage city, is famous for its port and defensive walls. You will visit the archaeological area with your audio guide, where you can admire the excavations of the Roman forum, the river port, the late antique markets and an area of necropolis called "burial ground".
You will then access the patriarchal basilica, which houses the largest floor mosaic in Europe, dating back to the fourth century AD. You will admire the Crypt of Frescoes and Excavations, where you will discover the history of Christian Aquileia in the early centuries and the so-called Holy Sepulchre.
After a short break for lunch, you will leave for Grado, known as the Golden Island, joined to the mainland by a thin strip of land.
During your free walk, you will discover the early Christian buildings of the Camp of the Patriarchs and the remains of the ancient Roman settlement and enjoy a wonderful view of the Karst, Trieste and the Istrian coast.
