Discover two of Mondavio's top attractions with this ticket to the Fortress and the Civic Art Gallery. Visit the Rocca Museum with the Armory and the section dedicated to Historical reenactment, and admire part of the artistic, historical and cultural heritage of the area in the Pinacoteca.
The Rocca Museum is located in the majestic Rocca, an extraordinary expression of Renaissance military architecture. The fortress was designed by Sienese architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini for Giovanni Della Rovere and completed around 1492, the year of the discovery of America. The museum offers a complete overview of the weapons that were used from the Middle Ages to the 17th century, as well as an accurate reconstruction of Renaissance environments, furnishings and costumes.
Admire an interesting collection of Renaissance weapons in the Armory, including a wide range of firearms such as the end piece of a bombard weighing over six quintals. The museum also displays light artillery such as carabiners and falconets, as well as halberds, roncones and other white weapons, often artistically decorated. In the moat outside the Rocca, you can see some large war machines reconstructed from drawings by Martini.
In the section dedicated to Historical reenactment, you will be fascinated by the accurate reconstruction of environments and moments of daily life between the 15th and 16th centuries, from the festive scene of the banquet to the horrors of prison and torture. Discover the aspects of culture and civilization that marked some of the highest moments for local communities.
With your ticket, you can also visit the Pinacoteca of Mondavio which houses paintings from the 1600s and 1700s, statues and ceramics. You'll be enchanted by ancient books with editions from the 15th to the 19th century, reproductions of Casteldurante ceramics, wonderful religious paintings and a wooden tabernacle from the local Capuchin convent.
