In Taíno, Los Haitises means the ‘highlands' – a national park that's home to untouched mangroves, forest-topped karsts and a wealth of flora and fauna. This full day tour sees you exploring one of the Dominican Republic's largest protected areas by speedboat with a lobster lunch to boot.
Exploration is the name of the game on this tour, and you'll need to keep your eyes peeled from the moment you board the speedboat in the town of Sabana de la Mar. It's one of two gateways into the park, and after a drink and snack you'll be gliding through a nature reserve known as ‘La Cueva de la Línea'. Not only is there a mangrove forest to see, but also Taíno petroglyphs and pictographs.
After touring the caves, you'll arrive at a secluded lunch spot, Punta Arena – a beach shaped like a half moon, lined with palm trees. Have a cocktail, swim, spot starfish and lie back with a lobster and seafood lunch. Then round off the adventure with a pirate boat trip back across the bay to hopefully spot some dolphins.
