Next up is the Salinas de Janubio salt flats where traditional methods are still in use. Seawater enters shallow basins, evaporates under the sun, and workers harvest the salt manually. These salt flats are a haven for migratory and coastal bird species.Thanks to its otherworldly natural landscape, Lanzarote was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1993. And the star of the show here is undoubtedly Timanfaya National Park. Follow the famous Lunar Route and explore lava fields, volcano craters and steaming geysers as you learn about why the whole island has achieved this special UNESCO-listed status. This easy 7-km guided walk through Los Volcanes Natural Park takes you up volcanic cones, across lava flows and through mesmerising things like lava tunnels with a native guide to point out all of the fascinating shapes.This three-hour hike through Los Volcanes Natural Park will bring you up close to the land formed by eruptions between 1730-1736 and 1824. Take the ferry over from Orzola and enjoy a day far removed from civilisation.After pick-up from your hotel, we'll head to Orzola harbour in the north of Lanzarote. It's a 30-minute ferry journey from here to Caleta del Sebo, the larger of the two settlements on La Graciosa. With its sandy streets, whitewashed houses and solitary church, it's like something from the Wild West.A short stroll out of town is Salado beach, the first of a string of golden sand strands washed by tropical waters – ideal for a lazy day. But if you're in the mood for some activity, a half-hour walk or so away from the village are the twin volcanoes of El Mojon and La Aguja. With such an abundance of unspoiled nature, it's no surprise that La Graciosa is the centrepiece of the Chinijo Archipelago Nature Reserve.
