This history-themed morning tour shines the spotlight three of the stars of Rhodes. You'll visit Kallithea Springs, the old town of Rhodes and Monte Smith. Dimitris, one of our local guides, says of Kallithea, ‘The architectural style and grandeur, with the pebbled mosaic floors, the rotunda, Perivolos, atrium and entrance staircase compose a nostalgic background that's reminiscent of an old movie.' Headsets allow direct connection between you and your guide.
You'll kick off at Kallithea Springs, renowned for their therapeutic properties since antiquity. Get the lowdown from your guide on their importance, from the days of Herodotus and Hippocrates to 20th century Italian colonists. It was the vision of award-winning fountain sculptor-architect Pietro Lombardi that transformed Kallithea into what it is today. His design has since seen these sparkling springs sprinkled with their fair share Hollywood gold dust. As Dimitris says, it's a scene of silver screen glamour, and your visit helps its upkeep.
We'll then set off towards Rhodes Town. Along the way, your guide will fill you in on the island's history and the classical myths that are still relevant to this day. See Evangelismos Church, Mandraki harbour and more, stopping at Monte Smith, the acropolis of Rhodes. Admire its Temple of Apollo, reconstructed Amphitheatre and Stadium. To round off the morning, there's a guided walk – followed by free time – of the medieval old town, which was built by the Knights Hospitaller.
