Het verhaal
In de bruisende Souq Waqif vind je traditionele kleding, lokale kruiden, handgemaakte producten en souvenirs. Ook zijn er in de soek tientallen restaurants en shisha-lounges gevestigd. Hoewel de Souq Waqif al minstens honderd jaar oud is, werd ervoor gekozen om de traditionele Qatari-bouwstijl te behouden toen het in 2006 gerenoveerd. Deze overdekte markt wordt vaak gezien als de enige plek in Doha dat het authentieke gevoel heeft weten te behouden op het gebied van handel, architectuur en cultuur. De soek is behlave bij de lokale inwoners ook erg populair bij expats (vooral in het weekend) om een hapje te eten in een van de verschillende eetgelegenheden.
