Savour an authentic taste of local life with a visit to a traditional Cretan village and a guided exploration of the island's largest cave. To polish things off, there's a tasting of local delicacies, too.
During the Sfendoni cave tour, you can admire countless stalactites and stalagmites, carefully lit using special lighting that highlights the dramatic formations without disturbing the bats and insects that live inside. It's the largest of the three caves in Crete that are open to the public and shouldn't be missed.
Next up is the typical rural village of Axos. Here, you can visit a museum with handmade wooden sculptures of subjects taken from ancient mythology. There's also free time to look around Axos and get a feel for the everyday life of its inhabitants in the handful of cafés and shops. Built on terraces 600 metres above the sea, the remains of the 5th century acropolis walls can still be seen today. We'll finish off the tour with a cooking demonstration, where you'll be able to taste a local speciality – cheese pie.
