Visit two iconic New Zealand attractions with this small group day tour to Hobbiton Movie Set and Weta Workshop Unleashed. The day includes a fully guided tour of the Hobbiton movie set and we also have a great lunch after. This is followed by a guided tour of the Weta Workshop experience in Auckland. Enjoy full commentary on the way with insights into the areas you are traveling through and background to both Hobbiton and Weta.
Our first stop on the way to Hobbiton is at a small cafe – a chance to get a quick snack or coffee if you need it. Then we are off to Hobbiton, where we will drive you down to the set itself and have one of the specialists Hobbiton guides take you on a walking tour around the 44 Hobbit holes. You will get the chance to have a photo in the doorway of a Hobbit house, see the Party Tree and stand by the gate to Bilbo’s house ‘Bag End’ overlooking the whole set to the hills in the distance. Before lunch enjoys a complimentary ale, cider or ginger beer in the Green Dragon Inn.
You have a 90-minute behind-the-scenes guided tour of three fictional movie projects and see the work that went into creating sets, props, and special effects. You have the opportunity to be fully hands-on, with the chance to hammer out armor, create tinfoil models, operate on an alien creature, and walk through a fantastical set featuring a turquoise blue river floor, castle tunnels, and grass hillsides.
