Escape the city and discover the Kapiti coast as you head north on a full day tour, stopping at the Pukekura Bay to capture the views of the Kapiti Island and coastline. You'll then be taken on a detour at Raumati to follow the coast up to Paraparaumu Beach for a brief break.
Then it's onto the Southwards Car Museum, followed by lunch at Long Beach Cafe in Waikanae. After lunch you'll visit the Nga Manu Reserve that offers you the opportunity to have a hands-on experience with nature. See New Zealand's rare brown kiwi in the nocturnal house and meet native birds in the walk-through aviaries. Spot native geckos, watch or participate in feeding endangered long-fin eels and get up close to the ancient Tuatara.
As you continue to drive north, you'll have a choice of shopping in the sleepy township of Otaki or visit a restored Maori church. Saunter back to Wellington with a stop off in Paraparaumu at either the Tuatara Beer factory or the Chocolate factory - the choice is yours.
