The northern part of the Costa Blanca is said by many to be the most beautiful. It's rockier and greener, with lots of small towns dotted among the mountainous landscapes. Among the visits on the route are Altea, Polop, the Bernia Mountains, Algar, Tàrbena and Xaló.
Altea is a magnet for artists, who seek inspiration in its hilly streets of whitewashed houses. Its blue-domed church dominates skyline, making it recognisable from afar. Further north, you'll stop at the hilltop village of Polop. It's surrounded by the Bernia Mountains and has a rich history thanks to the old castle, which crowned the hill. There'll also be a visit to the Algar waterfalls.
And as you twist and turn along the ‘Coll de Rates', well known to cycling enthusiasts, you'll be rewarded by panoramic views. There'll then be a stop for lunch in the village of Tàrbena. Then, passing banks of vineyards, you'll reach the village of Xaló, where you can taste some local wines in a bodega.
