Discover the history of Danish beer in the historic Carlsberg brewery in Copenhagen, once the birthplace of the renowned beer brand. This immersive journey transports you back to 1847, revealing the compelling story of the brewery's inception and growth. You'll uncover the narrative of its founders, J.C. Jacobsen and his son Carl Jacobsen, whose contrasting views on beer brewing and family disputes significantly moulded the brand.
Situated at the heart of the original brewery, the exhibition offers interactive games and videos that illuminate the scientific principles fundamental to the brewery's foundation and its worldwide impact on beer development. You'll be amazed by one of the world's largest bottle collections, featuring over 22,000 beer bottles. As part of your visit, you can savour a complimentary beer (40cl) or soda.
Your exhibition ticket also includes a guided tour of the hidden cellars. The tour takes you past J.C. Jacobsen’s Villa before descending 14 metres underground to the historic beer cellars from 1847. Despite restoration, the cellars retain their historic atmosphere, providing a rare insight into the past work of the brewery's workers and the crucial role these cellars played in the brewery's operation. Each cellar room holds its own tale, historical artefacts, and dramatic anecdotes about family conflicts and the brewery's evolution.
