Over two-thirds of Mljet is covered in forest, so this Adriatic gem is as unspoilt as they come. On this half-day, small-group trip by van you'll trundle through most of the villages on the island, stop off at Babino Polje, and hit the sandy beach in Saplunara for some much-deserved swimming.
As the largest of the islands in the Dubrovnik archipelago, there's plenty to explore around forested Mljet – including legends surrounding Odysseus. You'll head inland by bus, ticking off a string of villages and lookout points for photo opportunities with the Adriatic Sea as the backdrop.
Then, once you reach the largest settlement, Babino Polje, you'll be able to get out and about, taking in the 15th century Rector's Palace and Renaissance buildings as you wander around. Finally, the lure of the turquoise water will prove too tempting, and you'll have one last hour-long stop at Saplunara for swimming and sunbathing.
