On this guided tour, you’ll head to one of the oldest monasteries in Germany – Weltenburg Abbey. It was first built in 610 by a group of monks, but had a Baroque makeover in the 18th century. After a 15-minute bus ride from the port, you’ll follow your guide for a walk around the abbey’s art-filled rooms. Keep your camera handy, because you’ll get a good look at its marble-and-gold altar, and its giant organ. And don’t forget to check out the painted ceilings – they look like they belong in the Sistine Chapel. Weltenburg Abbey’s also home to the world’s oldest brewery, which you’ll be able to visit during your free time. It’s been making dark German lager since 1050, and has won three World Beer Cup awards in America, which are regarded as the ‘Olympics of beer’. You’ll be able to sip on a pint and try some of the abbey’s signature food, like salted pretzels, Bavarian dumplings and roasted pork knuckle. When you’re finished, you’ll start the return journey to the port.
