The current panoramic exhibition by Berlin artist Yadegar Asisi transports you to one of the coldest and most extraordinary natural landscapes on our planet – ANTARCTICA. Look forward to a fascinating exhibition experience for young and old that you will certainly not forget very soon.
The 32-metre-high circular painting depicts the Antarctic coastal landscape, where glaciers, ice shelves and icebergs meet and unfold in a reduced colour palette of white and blue tones. The image plays with the waterline as a central perspective: mighty ice formations tower above the surface, while underwater, the hidden life of Antarctica with whales, seals and penguins becomes visible.
Accompanying the panorama, the Panometer Leipzig is showing an exhibition on the geology, climate, wildlife and research history of Antarctica, as well as Asisi's personal artistic approach. He first travelled to the region in February 2016. Photographs, sketches, exhibits and paintings provide insight into his expeditions and research and make the creative process behind the work comprehensible. The exhibition sharpens the eye for the vulnerability of the southernmost continent on our planet and is intended as a call for respect and restraint.
The making-of-film at the end provides further insights into the artist's intention behind the exhibition.
