The tour offers you an immediate snapshot of the city's beauty that has captivated many, from ancient Greeks and Romans to medieval poets and tire-hardened travellers of the 19th-century "Grand Tour".
Initially, your journey takes you along the Naples promenade, brushing past the magical original heart of the city, Castel dell’ Ovo, and its underlying village “Borgo Marinari”. You'll then head west on Via Caracciolo where you'll cycle along the once-beachfront promenade. This route served the old fishing district of Naples, the folk neighbourhood of Mergellina and elegant Chiaia, which is now a popular spot for leisurely strolls or lively bar hops.
A gentle, consistent ascent leads you up to the hill of Posillipo, a scenic oasis both close to and yet distant from the city. This area was beloved by poets and nobles for its sea-facing villas, daring roads that skirt caves and ravines, and intertwine with the descending paths leading to former agricultural villages of the hill, all against a backdrop of the green sea dotted with fishing boats.
As a final reward for your pedalling efforts, you'll reach Virgilian Park. Perched atop the hill, this park is a favourite among locals for its verdant spaces and particularly for its magnificent view over the Bay of Naples. Here, you can take in sights of Vesuvius and Capri, Ischia and Procida.
