Explore the Antonino Salinas Regional Archaeological Museum, one of Sicily's oldest and most significant cultural institutions. Named after archaeologist and numismatist Antonino Salinas, this museum chronicles the history of western Sicily from prehistoric times through to the medieval period.
The museum's centrepiece is its collection of metopes from the temples of Selinunte – architectural elements from Doric friezes. Among its most treasured artefacts is the Stone of Palermo, with hieroglyphic inscriptions that document the annals of the first five Egyptian dynasties (3238-2990 BC). You'll also discover valuable artefacts from Pompeii and Torre del Greco, providing insights into daily life in these ancient Roman settlements. The museum houses one of Italy's most important collections of Etruscan and Punic art.
The museum is situated in Palermo's historic city centre within the Olivella complex, making it easily accessible during your exploration of the city.
