Do you want to get the most out of a full day excursion? This three city tour offers you three experiences and an opportunity to discover the hinterland in one day.
The first stop is Kairouan. The fourth holy city of Islam is a model of Arabic architecture and a landmark of spirituality, where Islamic buildings and relics fill the city. Kairouan is also a world renowned center for carpet-making. The majestic Grand Mosque is the oldest Muslim place of worship in North Africa and it is a model for most architectural styles all over North Africa all the way to Andalusia in Spain. The smaller “Mosque of the Barber” is named after one of the Prophet’s Mohammad companions, who came and died in Kairouan during the first Arab conquest in the 7th Century AD. You will also visit the Aghlabid Basins, a grand hydraulic installation that provided water for townspeople since the Middle Ages, in an arid region.
Then it's off to El Jem. This city is a witness to ancient Rome's mighty rule in North Africa. Its well-preserved Colosseum is the largest outside of Italy and the site is listed by UNESCO since 1979, as a World Heritage site.
Then your journey continues to Mahdia, a coastal tourist town and the capital of Tunisia. Mahdia is known for its beautiful white sand beaches and historical monuments such as La Skifa Kahla, El Jem and the Great Mosque, as well as its marine cemetery by the sea and its fishing port.
