The experience is offered to help conserve the flora and fauna of Chiapas in two ways. The first is in hiking in two reserves and the second is in taking environmental education workshops. Pronatura has two reserves that can be visited with a specialist guide, arriving tourists choose which reserves they prefer to visit. The reserves contain paths in the cloud forests and oak trees known as the Moxviquil Reserve and the Huitepec Reserve and comprises a total of 230 hectares located in the Valley of Jovel, San Cristobal de Las Casas. These visits will allow you to experience the knowledge of biodiversity in highly particular ways, contacting natural areas of exceptional value.Reserva Huitepec:Prepare to escape the noise of daily life and walk through peaceful mountains and forests. This beautiful valley nestled in the heart of the Mayan area in Los Altos de Chiapas is surrounded by pine and oak forests, where fog covering the highest peaks, such as Huitepec and Tzontehuitz, has been the cause of the development of extraordinary cloud forests. Explore this extraordinary and magical place, home to a rich diversity of species of flora and fauna, from shrews and salamanders, to flying squirrels, bird flags, and abetero owls. Although it may be difficult to observe each of these creatures on your excursion, they represent a rich, unique biodiversity of the Altos de Chiapas.Reserva Moxviquil:Within an area of 80 hectares in the mountains north of San Cristobal is the Ecological Reserve Moxviquil, which means Meeting Road, a forest of oaks that contributes to the uptake of water and the conservation of springs that feed the city. This ecological reserve was established by Pronatura Sur for the welfare of everyone, but especially for thinking of the future generations of San Cristobal de Las Casas. The area has a trail of 1700 meters that you can tour with an experienced and knowledgeable guide. The guides will give a comprehensive explanation of cultural and natural aspects and environmental problems of the region, as well as the flora and fauna of the reserve. There are also specialized tours for bird watching. So lose yourself in the wonder and majesty of this natural reserve.
