Visit Kulen Mountain with its breathtaking waterfalls and explore the ruins of the mysterious temple of Beng Mealea.
Leave Siem Reap and enjoy the 2-hour ride through the Cambodian countryside to Phnom Kulen National Park. Learn about the history of what is considered the birthplace of the Khmer Empire. The mountain is considered sacred as the site where King Jayavarman proclaimed independence from Java in 802 and where the cult of the linga began.
Next, head to the ancient ruins of Beng Mealea, a lost jungle temple on the outskirts of the Angkor Complex. Some say Beng Melea may have been a prototype for the centerpiece of the empire, Angkor Wat. Visit this mysterious temple completely overgrown by jungle. Enjoy fantastic photo opportunities of trees growing out of towers, walls covered in thick green moss, and tree roots entwined in the crumbling structure. You will notice that no restoration work has been done, which makes some of the temples inaccessible. However, you can easily access a large boardwalk with viewing platforms wrapped around the temple.
At the end of your journey, your guide will take you back to your hotel.
