You will depart in the morning by bus with your Italian guide towards the city of Kavala along the Egnatia highway, built on the traces of the ancient Roman road "Via Egnatia". You'll pass by the wonderful lakes of Koroni and Volvi and the village of Asprovalta. On the way, you'll have a stop at the place where Saint Lydia was baptized by Saint Paul, which is considered the first Christian Baptism in Europe.
Then you'll continue to the Archaeological site of Philippi, a city founded by the Greek King of Macedonia Philip II (father of Alexander the Great). Afterward you'll continue to the cosmopolitan town of Kavala, where you'll have a short panoramic tour of the city and have an optional lunch in a restaurant.
In the afternoon, before you return to Thessaloniki you'll have a stop to visit the famous Statue of Amphipoli - the statue of the Lion, a brand for the city of Serres and a symbol of Macedonia. The Lion of Amphipolis is undoubtedly one of the most significant monuments of the 4th century BC. After the recent discovery of the tomb of "Kasta" in the ancient Amfipolis, and according to the latest research data, the lion monument appears to be a tombstone of the tumulus, positioned in the highest central part of the hill.
After that you'll continue your way back to Thessaloniki in the late afternoon with great memories that will make your trip unforgettable.
