Established in 1938 in Katsunuma, Yamanashi - the revered heartland of Japanese wine - Shirayuri Winery has always strived to create wines that can compete with their Western counterparts. This ambition led to its christening as "L'Orient" (The Orient). Living up to its name, it has recently won Platinum at the Decanter World Wine Awards, one of the most prestigious wine competitions globally. In 2023, their Koshu wine, "Koshu Vigne de Nakagawa", had the honour of being served alongside traditional Japanese cuisine to world leaders at the G7 Hiroshima Summit.
You can savour a leisurely walk through the vineyards, partake in an informative winery tour, and indulge in tastings of several exquisite wines by the glass. Now under the stewardship of its third-generation president and fourth-generation executive director, they will impart knowledge about Katsunuma, Japan’s premier wine region, as well as the winery’s rich history and intricate winemaking process.
