Every ancient city has its dark legends and mystery stories and Stockholm is no exception. When the old town calms down at sunset, mystical shadows lurk in the dark alleys.
Take a lantern-lit stroll and visit some of the city's most haunted spots. You will first visit Stockholm's oldest ghost, a French monk named Gideon, who wanted to baptize the northern pagans and whose body was washed ashore on the island of Riddarholm after a stormy night more than 1000 years ago.
Then, stroll through some medieval cemeteries and past several locations where gruesome murders took place. Of course, you'll stop at central Stortorget Square, which has been the site of many executions, but none of them are as good as the Stockholm Carnage, which celebrated its 500th anniversary in 2020.
You'll also hear tales of the ghosts that supposedly still inhabit the foundations of the Royal Palace, which sometimes make some of the king's own guests feel a little uncomfortable, and the story of the White Lady and the Gray Man. To top it off, check out a petrified wascat over a high street entrance and hear its amazing story.
In case you do not discover any supernatural activity or do not believe in ghosts during this tour, you can still enjoy all the stories and have the opportunity to see Gamla Stan from its most mysterious side.
