The sands of time may have been harsh on the ancient Asclepeion Temple, but after 2,400 years, it's still one of Greece's most important archaeological sites. Standing on a pine-clad hillside, you'll find the remains of one of the world's most influential early hospitals, where doctors used the techniques of Hippocrates – known as the father of modern medicine.
Your next stop is the mountain village of Zia, where you can browse for handicrafts or admire the views to Turkey on the horizon before heading to Kefalos for some free time on the beach. Then it's on to a local aloe vera farm. Its healing powers are well-known, and Kos has just the right climate for growing this wonder-plant. The last leg of your tour is the tastiest. You'll visit an olive oil producer to learn how the local Coroneiki and Thrubalia varieties give Kos' olive oil its rich and fruity flavour – and naturally, you'll taste it for yourself.
