The island of Symi, about 20 miles north-west of Rhodes, is known throughout the Mediterranean for its scenery and history. And when it comes to the former, we're not just talking about the beaches and bays (although you'll see plenty of those), it's the harbour and hillside homes in Ano Symi – the island's biggest town – that steal the show.
This tour, which is exclusive to us, makes sure you see all of the above. You'll be picked up from your hotel and driven to the harbour, where you'll hop on a boat and head to Symi. Your first stop is in the southwest part of the island, the Panormitis Monastery, where the history pages turn back to around 400AD. During your guided tour, you'll have loads of opportunities to snap shots of its ice-white exterior and colourful frescoes.
From here, you'll hop back on the boat and sail to Ano Symi. On the way, your captain will drop the anchor in St George Bay, where you can hop in the sea for a cooldown dip. When you arrive in Ano Symi, it's time for a guided tour of its pastel-coloured streets. You'll see all angles of the town while your guide tells you about Symi's love of sponge-diving – the people here have been doing it for centuries. There's one last swim stop before you sail back to base.
