There's more to Mauritius than beaches and lagoons. This experience takes you behind the scenes of the island's creative side, meeting local makers and discovering the skills behind some of its handmade crafts. First up is The Beautiful Local Hands, where women turn recycled materials into pottery, rattan baskets and other crafts, while the project helps support their livelihoods.
At Baz'Art Kreasion, you'll see women artisans at work making jewellery and accessories, before heading to Le Rendez-Vous. This boutique brings together more than 50 Mauritian designers, so it's a good spot to browse for locally made pieces beyond the usual holiday souvenirs.
Lunch comes at Le Grand Désir Restaurant, with Indian-inspired Mauritian dishes featuring fresh vegetables, spices and achards, followed by sweet ladoos. Finally, browse Quatre Bornes Market for textiles, souvenirs and local treats before heading back to your hotel.
