Two-night tour of Faial’s volcano and marina with Atlantic views

Faial is where volcanic landscapes, Atlantic traditions and seafaring stories come together. Over three days, you'll experience the island beyond its famous viewpoints, exploring the places and people that have shaped this corner of the Azores. Settled in the 15th century, the capital, Horta, has welcomed ocean-weary sailors for centuries, earning its reputation as a legendary stop on transatlantic voyages. On arrival, you'll transfer to your hotel, where volcanic stone, maritime colours and panoramic Atlantic views reflect the island you're here to explore.

Your first port of call on day two is the marina, where colourful murals painted by visiting sailors tell stories of voyages from around the world. Next, you'll head up Monte da Guia for sweeping views across the bay towards Pico's towering volcanic peak. There's an option to visit the nearby former whaling station museum, which charts the island's journey from whaling hub to marine conservation champion. By midday, you'll reach Faial’s biggest draw, the black ash-covered Capelinhos volcano, where a dramatic eruption in 1957 expanded the island and transformed the landscape. The underground visitor centre brings one of Mother Nature’s most forceful acts to life through the stories of locals who lived through the volcanic eruption.

Lunch is at a seafood restaurant that can’t wait to serve you their freshest catch of the day with a side of warm Azorean hospitality. In the afternoon, hydrangea-lined roads lead you into Faial's green interior and to the vast Caldeira crater. If the weather allows, you'll walk along the rim for panoramic views across the island and the Atlantic beyond. Returning through peaceful villages and rolling hills, you'll discover a quieter side of Faial that many visitors rush past. After a final night in Horta, you’ll head off on day three for your onward transfer.
