On the 19th of September 2021 a new volcanic crater was formed near La Palma. The volcano previously known as Cumbre Vieja erupted, completely changing the landscape west of the city. Hiking 5km on the newly christened Tajogaite - cracked mountain - you'll almost reach the crater. From here, awesome views of the lava flows and the Aridane Valley open up.

With the right weather conditions, the Milky Way is dazzling against crystal-clear dark skies. Due to a very restrictive lighting policy across the island, outdoor lights on La Palma are well shielded and the night-time sky is dark. For the real show you have to leave the coastline and drive up to the mountains to one of the many astronomical view points in La Palma.You'll drive to the designated point, which is one of the best places for stargazing. After making the most of 90 minutes of astronomical observation, you'll have time to take some night photos.
