You'll start your five-hour Highest Peaks Walk by driving up Pico Arieiro where you'll join your guide who will accompany you all the way. Here you'll all set out along the path that joins the two highest peaks in Madeira ready for the adventure ahead. Nuns Valley and Madeira Wine Tour
Madeira is famous for wine and views, two things that feature on this half-day tour. Your adventure kicks off at the spectacular Pico dos Barcelos, where you can take in 360° panoramic views of the capital, Funchal. Then, you'll head inland to Eira do Serrado – which itself boasts amazing views over the ‘hidden village' of Curral das Freiras. Heading to the east of Madeira, you'll begin this easy country walk from the pretty hillside village of Maroços. You'll set off on foot with your guide and discover sights that you wouldn't be able to see by car as you spiral your way along the green terraces above Machico and through Mimosa Valley. We'll follow the irrigation channel – ‘levada' – and along the way you'll catch panoramic views over Machico and the Atlantic Ocean.

Referta Walk
The Referta levada walk is an easy stroll through lush countryside to hidden gems that are only accessible by foot. If you're interested in seeing how locals manage to farm the land in Madeira, then this walking tour will give you an insight into the farming lifestyle on the island. You'll join an experienced guide for a walk along the Referta levada past the agricultural terraces cut into the hillsides to grow fruit and vegetables. You'll see some of the villages in the north-east pop up in the distance as well as the flora and fauna that can be found on the island.

Pico do Arieiro Walk – from the West
The highest peaks in Madeira are the stars of the show on this hike, where you'll feel closer and closer to the sky. You'll start the hike by driving up Pico Arieiro where you'll walk to a vantage point, Ninho da Manta, to survey the mountains around you. Here you'll set out along the path that looks over Nun's Valley, before passing through three small tunnels that cut through Pico do Gato. You'll need to have your wits about you as you step along the rock face to the mountain hut at Pico Ruivo. But it's worth it, as the viewing platform on the highest peak is within touching distance.

Private Traditional West Tour

Fanal Assobiadores Walk
This four-and-a-half hour moderate walking tour takes you to some of Madeira's lushest corners. You'll follow a trail through the Unesco-protected laurissilva forest from the Paul da Serra plateau to Fanal, and cover 11.5km of jaw-dropping landscape.Firstly you'll be picked up from your hotel and taken to the start point for the hike on the Paul da Serra plateau and set off with your guide to explore some of the most poetic parts of Madeira. Some of the trail is covered by a laurissilva forest, classified as a World Natural Heritage Site.Along the way there are several viewpoints that reveal a series of dreamy landscapes, with highlights including the view over the valley of Ribeira da Janela and Chão da Ribeira. The walk ends in the area of Fanal, home to an ancient forest, after some climbs and descents where you'll fully appreciate the total serenity of the area.

Ribeiro Frio
Considered one of the prettiest levada walks in Madeira, the Ribeiro Frio hike will not disappoint. Over 2,000km of aqueduct-like levadas criss-cross Madeira, delivering much-needed water to the dry south-west of the island, also doubling up as scenic walking trails. You'll join up with a professional guide who will navigate the way as you follow the path along the Ribeiro Frio levada. You'll come across magical laurel forests hiding tiny birds like chaffinches and Trocaz pigeons.
