The highest peaks in Madeira are the stars of the show on this hike, where you'll feel closer and closer to the sky. You'll start the hike by driving up Pico Arieiro where you'll walk to a vantage point, Ninho da Manta, to survey the mountains around you. Here you'll set out along the path that looks over Nun's Valley, before passing through three small tunnels that cut through Pico do Gato. You'll need to have your wits about you as you step along the rock face to the mountain hut at Pico Ruivo. But it's worth it, as the viewing platform on the highest peak is within touching distance.

With mystifying views over the north coast and more greenery than you could imagine, the Caldeirão Verde levada guided walk is not to be missed. You'll set off on foot with your guide through Queimadas, and with nothing but nature and scenery before you, you're guaranteed pure serenity during this hike. We'll follow the Caldeirão Verde levada through a green paradise with laurel trees providing shade and the sun peeping through the treetops. Villages will appear dotted below in the green valleys and from here you'll catch your first glimpse of the Caldeirão Verde waterfall.

Fanal Assobiadores Walk
This four-and-a-half hour moderate walking tour takes you to some of Madeira's lushest corners. You'll follow a trail through the Unesco-protected laurissilva forest from the Paul da Serra plateau to Fanal, and cover 11.5km of jaw-dropping landscape.Firstly you'll be picked up from your hotel and taken to the start point for the hike on the Paul da Serra plateau and set off with your guide to explore some of the most poetic parts of Madeira. Some of the trail is covered by a laurissilva forest, classified as a World Natural Heritage Site.Along the way there are several viewpoints that reveal a series of dreamy landscapes, with highlights including the view over the valley of Ribeira da Janela and Chão da Ribeira. The walk ends in the area of Fanal, home to an ancient forest, after some climbs and descents where you'll fully appreciate the total serenity of the area.
