Experience the biggest Natural Park of the whole Balkan, where bears and lynxes roam the earth! The Natural Park of Mavrovo is known for high mountain peaks, beautiful lakes, deep canyons and dense forests, that abound with diverse wildlife. For centuries, shepherds have brought their sheep here to escape the scorching valley heat. If lucky, you can encounter one of these shepherds.
When entering the Natural Park of Mavrovo, you'll be dropped off in the most iconic village of North Macedonia, which is called Galicnik. From there, after a small break, the hike will start through grasslands covering plateaus and mountain ridges around Mali Sar. During the summer, the area is covered in countless mountain flowers.
On the way back, you’ll have the chance to make a quick stop at the famous submerged church. Note that this depends on the level of the water. This is a great opportunity to take amazing photos before returning to Ohrid.
