Piazza dei Miracoli changes completely after eight in the evening. The crowds dissolve, the marble catches the low light of sunset, and three of Italy's most important medieval monuments — the Cathedral, the Baptistery, and the Camposanto — become a different place.
This evening tour runs on selected summer dates, when the Opera della Primaziale Pisana keeps the monuments open until 10:30 pm. A licensed local guide takes you through all three in around 90 minutes — entrance tickets included, no queuing, and far more space than usual.
The timing is deliberate: inside the Camposanto cloister, at a certain point in the tour, the sun drops below the Pisan skyline. The light on the medieval marble and frescoes is hard to photograph and easy to remember.
