Where to go
If you love to be beside the seaside then Plymouth is for you. Due to its geographical location on the south-west coast of England, and its natural harbor, Plymouth is rich in marine and naval history. After being destroyed by bombings in the Second World War, the city was rebuilt and now offers naval museums, zoos and plenty of sea views. Britain’s oldest gin distillery has its home in Plymouth, so after a blustery walk around the Barbican, the Hoe and the Sound, why not warm up with a local tipple. Just out of the city, nature awaits you in Wembury, a beautiful beach surrounded by cliffs or you can stretch your legs in the incredibly green surroundings of Plymbridge Woods. Perhaps a trip to the 17th century citadel is more up your street, to learn about military history. Whatever it is, there’s plenty to keep you occupied in Plymouth.
