In the summer of 1945, Potsdam became the focus of world attention. The most powerful heads of state in the world at that time came to the city to hold the "Potsdam Conference". Practically at the same time, the nuclear age began - also in Potsdam.
At the S-Bahn station Griebnitzsee you will be picked up by a minibus called Buchanka (tin loaf) and at first you will drive along the Griebnitzsee, where you can see magnificent villas on the shore. These served the conference delegations not only as residences, but also for debauched celebrations on the occasion of the end of the war in Europe. At the Truman Villa of the U.S. president, you will learn what the atomic bombs dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 have to do with the Potsdam Conference.
Through the British zone with the Churchill Villa you will then go to the former residence of the Soviet head of state Josef Stalin. With the Buchanka you will take the same route that was once taken by the motorcades of the heads of state. You will then drive via the later GDR exclave Klein Glienicke and the world-famous Bridge of Spies to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Neuer Garten.
Finally, at Cecilienhof Palace, you will visit the exhibition on the Potsdam Conference and the historic Potsdam Agreement. Afterwards, you will return to the Griebnitzsee S-Bahn station.
