Travels along the shores of Lake Wakatipu and Lake Te Anau before traversing the glacial carved mountains of Fiordland National Park, and a cruise at Milford Sound! The coach and cruise tour allows us to take care of you all day long from pickup to drop off on the return journey, so sit back, relax, and enjoy an unforgettable journey of a lifetime. The tour commences with a journey south along the shore of Lake Wakatipu, a deep glacial lake surrounded by soaring steep mountains. The journey continues west across Northern Southland to Te Anau where a 30min stop allows passengers to grab a coffee or walk around this pretty village nestled on the shores of Lake Te Anau.
The tour then resumes in a northerly direction where vistas of the vast wilderness of Fiordland National unfold on the opposite side of the lake. Lake Te Anau is New Zealand's 2nd largest lake at 344 km2 and has freshwater fjords called arms on its western side that were carved out during the last ice age. Soon after leaving the lake, the coach enters the national park via Eglington Valley. A number of stops are made along the way for photos and short walks as the trip makes its way along Eglinton Valley, the upper Hollyford Valley, through the Homer Tunnel, and Cleddau Valley before reaching Milford Sound.
Once at Milford a 2-hour cruise commences aboard one of the modern three-deck catamarans taking passengers the length of the fjord to the Tasman Sea and back. Extensive indoor and outdoor spaces enhance viewing opportunities and passenger comfort. Learn about local Maori Legends and why Captain Cook failed to discover Milford Sound during a full commentary. See seals from meters away and occasionally bottlenose dolphin and the rare Fiordland Crested Penguin.
