The inside story

The grand Yusupov palace is located on the Moika River featuring one of the few remaining homes in St Petersburg with original 19th century interiors and is most famously known murder of Grigory Rasputin in 1916.

Built upon upon the site where Tsarevna Praskovia Ivanovna, niece of Peter the Great, once had her wooden palace. The structure was updated by French architect Jean-Baptiste Vallin de la Mothe in the 1770’s and later acquired by the aristocratic Yusupov family in 1830, who would add its lavish interiors.

On a tour of the palace your can walk through halls painted in various styles, furnished with chandeliers, silks and tapestries. The second floor of this home features a ballroom, green drawing room and ornate rococo private theater. On the ground floor you will find a Turkish Study and Moorish drawing room and of course you will not want to miss the notorious room where the plot to kill Rasputin began.

The moderm museum offers its guests an opportunity to explore the lavish lives of Russia’s elite and Rasputin’s display. As well as playing host to cultural functions, classical concerts and theater performances.

Individual visitors are wecome to see the State Rooms with a general entrance ticket. Audioguides are available in Russian, English, French, German, Italian, Finnish and Spanish.
