Discover Fadiouth, a remarkable island built almost entirely from shells. Far from being a natural phenomenon, the island was formed over centuries by the accumulation of shells from molluscs consumed by the communities that have lived here since ancient times.
Explore this unique destination, connected to the nearby village of Joal by a 400-metre wooden bridge. Stroll through the island and learn about its fascinating history and cultural heritage while taking in its distinctive landscapes.
The tour also includes a visit to the mixed cemetery of Fadiouth, located on a small islet surrounded by the sea. This peaceful site is notable for welcoming both Muslim and Christian tombs, reflecting the area's long tradition of coexistence. Along the way, admire the colourful fishing boats that line the coast and visit a local women's association specialising in seafood processing and spirulina cultivation, offering insight into local livelihoods and community initiatives.
