Los Haitises has hundreds of species of plants sprouting untamed out of the ground. You'll find mangroves, bamboo, ferns and bromeliads that provide a habitat to many bird species. The park also has caves from the pre-Columbus era with paintings by native Tainos depicting faces and hunting scenes. You'll get to hear about their history and the culture.
The landscape is marked by steep limestone hills known as mogotes as well as lagoons with islets overgrown with vegetation. Coupled with sounds of chirping birds, the atmosphere throughout is exceedingly tropical. It feels like Jurassic Park – but without the dinosaurs. This is Dominican Republic at its wildest.
