What to expect

This walking tour will take you on a journey through the world of Sumo, the wrestling competition that has been practiced for more than 1500 years!

It is a world-renowned contest of strength, and its culture is deeply rooted in Japanese history. It is a great experience that you wouldn’t want to miss! You'll visit the Ryogoku Kokugikan (the venue where sumo wrestlers practice) and the Sumo Museum to learn about the development of sumo. You'll also be taken to a restaurant to taste chanko nabe- a traditional hot pot for sumo wrestlers.

What to remember

The following rules of Ryogkoku Kokugikan must be respected:

  • No chatting, no food and drinks inside
  • Cell phone/smart phone should be on silent mode
  • No flash or shutter sounds when taking photos

During Great Sumo Tournament some buildings are not accessible, and will be replaced with a visit the Edo Tokyo Museum
