Discover the Falkenstein Cave in the Swabian Jura on a guided tour for the brave.
Thousands of caves make the Swabian Alb one of the world's most cave-rich regions. They range from simple rock holes and show caves with magnificent stalactite formations to the caves of the oldest Ice Age art, where the oldest objects ever made by humans were found and which were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.
Experience an adventure and immerse yourself in a fascinating and closed world. Discover the wild and only water-bearing cave in Germany, the Falkenstein Cave. Squeeze through narrow passages, pass through water-bearing cave passages, climb over rocks and admire an untouched primeval world deep in the belly of the earth.
First, hike up to the gigantic cave portal. Put on your helmet and switch on your headlamp. Pass through a 4-metre-wide chasm and descend around 400 meters into the cave. Climb past numerous stalactites to the Regentörle narrow passage. Enter a small hall and listen to the babbling of the cave stream in complete darkness. Descend to the first siphon, a water hole, and arrive on the other side. After about 500 meters you will reach the Reutlinger Halle. Climb through a narrow passage and enjoy the hall. Now climb back up to the level of the cave stream. Climb gently up the mountain and pass countless small cascades and waterfall steps. Walk past beautiful sinter terraces and reach the baptistery.
