Leave Barcelona behind and travel north along the Mediterranean coast to Blanes, known as the gateway to the Costa Brava. After around an hour on the road, you'll arrive at one of the few remaining coves in the area that has avoided large-scale development and mass tourism. Here, you'll have time to enjoy a swim in the clear waters or take a walk along the rocky shoreline.
From the cove, you can choose how to spend the next couple of hours. You may prefer to relax on the beach, or you can visit the nearby botanical gardens. Home to a wide range of exotic plant species, the gardens are particularly known for their clifftop setting and sweeping views over the coastline.
A typical Mediterranean lunch will then be served at a local restaurant. The meal begins with a selection of traditional dishes and a glass of sangria, followed by a choice of main courses.
In the afternoon, you'll head to Tossa de Mar. A walk through the cobbled streets takes you up to the lighthouse, with views over the Costa Brava coastline. From the highest point, you'll make your way back down through the old town and into a network of narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses and small shops. You'll have free time to browse local boutiques, pick up souvenirs or enjoy a drink at one of the bars before returning to Barcelona, arriving at around 6.00 pm.
