The Jewish Quarter of Barcelona (El Call) and its first documented reference in Barcelona dates from the years 875-877. This guided route describes the life and history of the Jewish community that lived in “El Call” during Medieval Times, starting with the Black Death (1348), followed by the riots (1391) that made the Aljama community disappear. The notarial records of Barcelona contain a great deal of information about the economic activity of the Barcelona Jews during the 13th and 14th centuries.
This tailor-made route has been created in collaboration with MUHBA (Barcelona Museum of History). First, you will visit the Major Call or Call Mayor: to the South the Carrer del Call; to the West, by the old Roman wall, and to the east with the street of Bisbe, not forgetting the new baths where the ritual of the Mikveh Jewish bath was performed.
Finally, you will visit Palau Güell (or Güell Palace), designed by Antoni Gaudi as a mansion house for Eusebi Guell in the late 19th century. The Palace is situated in the heart of Barcelona, this unmissable architectural masterpiece forms part of the 'Works of Antoni Gaudi' UNESCO World Heritage Site.
