Built for the International Exhibition of 1929, Poble Espanyol gives a fascinating insight into the architecture of many different regions of Spain, all in one ‘Spanish Village'. There are 117 different buildings including stately homes, elegant palaces, a Basque farmhouse, religious buildings and beautiful plazas, winding streets and gardens all to wander around.
It is so much more than an open-air architectural museum however. It is also home to more than 40 crafty workshops where visitors can watch the skilled artisans producing and selling everything from leather goods, embroidery and ceramics. Brand new for 2018 is the Fiesta Space – an interactive media exhibition that uses state-of-the-art technology to put you in the heart of the action at the city's major festivals.
There's also a good choice of bars and restaurants to choose from when you need some refreshments. With so much of Spain to explore in one area, Poble Espanyol ensures an entertaining and very special day out for everyone away from the traffic and bustle of the city.
