The inside story

A historic place associated with spiritual prophecy, the Mount of Olives is a 3-peak mountain ridge bordering Jerusalem’s Old City to the east. The Mount of Olives is referenced frequently in the Bible and is considered a sacred site in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Pilgrims of varying beliefs from around the world are drawn to this holy site. Believed in Judaism to be where the messianic era will begin, the Mount of Olives has been used as a cemetery by the Jewish since Biblical times and is the largest and oldest Jewish cemetery in the world.

In addition to the cemetery, the Mount of Olives is home to multiple Christian churches and shrines. It’s here you’ll find the Chapel of the Ascension, a joint Christian chapel and Islamic mosque which was built over the spot where Christians and Muslims believe Jesus ascended to heaven.
