Experience this private full day tour from Sarlat la Caneda. You'll meet your driver-guide, who will go over the program and itinerary of the day as you begin to make your way to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Rocamadour and the Quercy region of France.
Depart for the pilgrimage and fortress village of Rocamadour, renowned for its historical monuments and its sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary then follow your guide as you stroll through the streets of the medieval village. You'll reach the steps that will take you to the village center where the church square is located, Place St Amadour, surrounded by its 7 sanctuaries. The 216 or so steps that make up the Great Staircase takes you from the lower part of town to the religious complex.
Upon arrival, your guide will introduce you to the sanctuary where you can visit the renowned Notre Dame Chapel, part of an extraordinary 13th-century chapel complex. Hanging from the ceiling are a number of ship models, given by thankful survivors that were saved from shipwrecks by calling upon the Black Madonna. Facing Notre Dame chapel, you'll be able to admire the beautiful frescoes, that represent the Annunciation and Visitation, that date back to the 12th century. Afterward, you'll have some free time to discover the village on your own. You'll then continue your tour to the small village of St Cirq Lapopie where your guide will provide you a short walk in the historic part of the village.
