The inside story

When in Tel Aviv, you simply cannot miss visiting the eye-catching Old Port of Tel Aviv. This hip and historic neighbourhood, found on a hill in the northwestern part of Jaffa, is easily one of the most popular tourist attractions in Tel Aviv.

Dating back to the 15th century, the Old Port of Tel Aviv radiates rich, local history and culture. A stone's throw away from the winding, narrow passageways that make up the Jaffa's Old Town, the Old Port preserves its old ways of life, standing out, compared to the modernized centre of Tel Aviv.

The ancient Port of Jaffa is considered to be one of the oldest port cities on the Mediterranean Sea and is also believed to be the location where Jonah set off to sea as recounted in the Bible, the story of Jonah and the Whale. The port is still used by fishermen to this day.

The Old Port is also great to access nearby landmarks in Jaffa such as the limestone Clock Tower and St. Peter’s Church, both built during the Ottoman period.
Tuck into a tasty meal at the local fish market or poke around the nearby Jaffa Flea Market and be tempted to buy some attractive trinkets.
