Step back in time during a visit to the Bavarian Forest Museum Village – a 25-hectare woodland attraction that’s filled with 150 frozen-in-time buildings. It’s one of the biggest museums in Europe, and its collection of 60,000 artefacts dates back to 1580. You’ll meet your guide at the port, then hop on a coach for a 30-minute drive to the open-air museum. Then, you’ll set off around the streets for a tour. You’ll pass wooden farmhouses, chapels and workshops as you make your way to Germany’s oldest primary school. It was built in 1666, and you’ll be able to head inside for a closer look at the classrooms. Before the return journey, you’ll have some free time to explore on your own. You could slip into the Muhlhiasl tavern for a bite to eat and sample Bavarian favourites like salty pretzels, fried schnitzel and bratwurst sausages.
