For three decades the border into the occupied northern part of Cyprus remained closed to visitors – but now you can cross over for a daytrip from Paphos and Limassol. You'll journey through the hills to Bellapais Abbey passing by the historic walls of Nicosia, on to Kyrenia to see a famous shipwreck and enjoy some free time at its historic harbour.
Leaving Paphos behind, you'll travel towards the Ayios Dometios checkpoint, pausing for a quick coffee en route. Once we're across the border into Northern Cyprus, you'll witness traditional scenes. Drive past the Venetian walls of Nicosia and through bucolic countryside, winding through the Pentadaktlos Mountains to Bellapais Abbey.
Your guide will bring its 800-year history to life with a tour around the grounds and you'll be captivated by the views plunging down to Kyrenia, which is our next stop. Here, you'll have free time to explore the seaside town as well as the shipwreck museum before returning south.
