Aguas Calientes: attractions, tours and tickets

Surrounded by green mountains in the Urubamba River Valley, Aguas Calientes is a lively town at the foot of Machu Picchu. The river rushes through the valley below, while colourful streets filled with cafés, restaurants and market stalls give the centre an energetic feel. Whether you're heading to the famous Inca citadel or returning after your visit, it's a pleasant place to spend time and experience a different side of the Sacred Valley.

Despite its popularity, Aguas Calientes retains a distinctly local character. The compact town centre is easy to explore on foot, with restaurants, cafés and shops clustered along its main streets. The Mercado Artesanal is the focal point for shopping, where handmade textiles, jewellery and souvenirs make tempting reminders of your trip. Beyond the centre, the streets quickly give way to lush greenery, with the Mandor Gardens and their surrounding trails offering a quieter side of the area.
